Did you know that there is an animal that shoots electric shocks?

The electric eel (Electrophorus electricus) emits electrical discharges from head to tail, as it has two pairs of longitudinal electrical organs. It can reach 1.8 meters in length and lives in rivers in Brazil and the Guianas.

It paralyzes its prey with 650 volt shocks, although it can be more or less depending on the size of the eel. The amount of energy would be considerably higher than that of an electroshock weapon used by security forces.

The eel uses this ability to hunt. It sends electrical impulses through the water that, in succession, can paralyze prey or, in a few impulses, cause it to roll through the water, revealing its location through waves the eel feels with hairs on its back. body. To deal with larger enemies, eels can wrap around the intruder or rise up to create a direct electrical circuit.

The most powerful electric marine fish is the black tremienga (Torpedo nobiliana), which is a species of electric ray in the family Torpedinidae that lives in the Mediterranean and some contiguous areas of the eastern Atlantic.

It is capable of emitting 220 volt discharges, which produce 1 kW of electricity. Since salt water conducts electricity better than fresh water, this fish does not need to emit shocks as powerful as those of the electric eel.
